To avoid becoming a "boring adult"

Hello.

It's been two months since I announced the start of my blog.

This time, I'd like to write about what I think about "the time of sluggishness" that I experience several times in my career.

I'm sure there are times in your career when you feel you are growing and times when you are not.

I have experienced this many times in my career of about 20 years.
When you learn a job and start to enjoy it, you are definitely growing. And if you continue to do so, your performance will follow and you will be more appreciated by others. You'll meet new people, you'll find new stages in your career, and you'll feel like your career is sailing on forever.

This in itself is a good thing. But it can also be dangerous.

We all want to be in a place where we feel comfortable. We all want to be in a place where we feel comfortable, where we are praised, where we are happy every day, where we are rewarded and where social status seems to come with it.

But why not pause for a moment and think about it from this perspective?

"Am I better now than I was three months ago, or better three months from now than I am now?

If you can go on and on and say, "I can do this now", "I've had new experiences", "I can do that next time", then you are definitely growing.

If not, it's a yellow light.

A common pattern is when the legacy of the past and relationships allow the work to flow. This is a pitfall that veterans and mid-career professionals can easily fall into.
I'm sure there are some around you.

It's true that they seem to be getting better and better every day. The people around you love you. But you don't feel like you're growing. If things continue in the same way, then of course the good times will continue for a while.

However, as soon as there is a change in the environment, such as a sudden transfer, a company being acquired or merged, or the arrival of a competitor, you may suddenly find that the work you were doing so well suddenly stops working as well as it should.

You don't realise that you've stopped growing until it's too late to do anything about it....

To put it a little more bluntly, you become a "boring adult".

We don't want this to happen.

My recommendation (or rather, what I've done to counteract my own fear of not feeling like I'm growing up) is that when you feel like you're not growing up, even when things are seemingly going well

find a new job within the company and change the environment, or
Create learning opportunities outside the company (Also, although I don't recommend it easily, changing jobs is a great way to change your environment.

I believe that by doing this, you are able to create an environment where you can get new stimuli and feel like you are growing every day.

How do you feel about this?
